BABYSITTER

Put yourself on the top of every parent's list by taking Babysitter Training at the YMCA of Central Texas. Designed for pre-teens and teens, this course teaches you how to keep the kids in your care safe and how to react should you have to deal with an emergency. You'll learn basic caregiving skills as well as CPR & First Aid. To earn ASHI (American Safety & Health Institute) certification, you must successfully demonstrate specific skills.

     • No prerequisites are required to enroll.
     • The class meets for 4 hours but could take longer, depending on the number of participants.
     • The student-to-instructor ratio is 10:1.
     • Each student receives a Babysitter Training manual to keep.
     • The class is not designed to meet state regulatory requirements for child care workers.

Time: 4 PM-8 PM (Bring a sack lunch.)
Fees: $40 members, $60 nonmembers
Location: Waco Family YMCA
Registration Deadline: 4 p.m. the Thursday before the class. Without a minimum of 2 kids registered, the class will be cancelled.

Babysitter Training addresses leadership skills and covers how to lead kids in play time. Most importantly, you'll learn about injury prevention, basic care giving skills, and first aid.

You will receive an American Safety & Health Institute certification card that is good for 2 years once you competently perform five skill objectives. These skill objectives involve proper:
     • CPR skills
     • hand washing technique with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub
     • diaper changing
     • infant safety and holding techniques
     • control of severe bleeding
