We offer day swim clinics for adults and youth to promote the joy of swimming by assisting and encouraging young swimmers to reach their true individual potential in an advanced competitive program. Winter/spring 2010 clinics are on January 31st, March 20th and July 25th from 10am-3pm. The cost is $50 for members and $65 for non-members. Please remember to bring a sack lunch.
Killer Whales Summer League
The YMCA Whales is designed to foster the growth and development of High School swimmers during the summer months. We have daily workouts that focus on swimming, cross-training and racing strategies. The goal is to provide a team setting where each person can fulfill his or her individual goals and participate with the team for competitive preparation.
(High School or going into High School) $60 per mo. for M or $75 per mo. NM
*April 1 - 30, 2010. M-F 4pm - 6pm / *May 3 - 31, 2010. M-F 4pm-6pm
Lifeguard Training (ages 16 & up)
This course provides the student with a YMCA lifeguard certification that is valid at any lifeguard agency. The pre-requisites are:
- Must be 16 years of age by the time the class ends.
- Swim 500 yards
- Tread water for 2 minutes
- Swim under water for 15 feet
- Perform a long and shallow dive.
The course requirements for certification are:
- Full participation of the course.
- 80 % or higher on written test.
- 100% attendance required
Please note the lifeguard training course does include CPR and First Aid training.
$155M or $170NM (age 16 & up)

Jr. Lifeguard Training (ages 11-15 only)
This training course if designed for youth interested in becoming lifeguards in the future. During the course students will learn about the qualities of a lifeguard, YMCA core values, aquatic safety, and methods of drowning prevention and rescue techniques. This course does give the student a lifeguard certification but adequately prepares the student for the lifeguard course. The dates are the same as the lifeguard course.The cost is $75 for members and $100 for non-members. (Each class orientation begins at 5pm and each class sets schedule-20 hours.)
SCUBA
This is one of Waco’s best kept secrets! This is a full SCUBA certification course that is offered for only $50 that includes equipment. The course is taught by neuroscientist Dr. Hugh Riley. Dr. Riley has certified over 6,000 divers in his career. Orientations are on April 6, 2010 at 6pm & May 4, 2010 at 6pm. The schedule for the remainder of the course is determined by the class.
Babysitter Training (ages 11-15 only)
This is a four-hour course that touches on CPR, teaches basic hygiene techniques, and what to do in situations that may arise while baby-sitting. The winter/spring 2010 dates for this course are: February 13th at 10am - 2pm; March 13th at 10am - 2pm; April 10th at 10am - 2pm; May 8th at 10am - 2pm. The cost is $40 for members are $60 for non-members. Please remember to bring a sack lunch.
YMCA “SPLASH” Water Safety Seminars/Demonstration
Price and date scheduled by appointment. Activities include:
- Exciting contests in and around the pool
- Games that will make a splash
- Tasty refreshments
- Helpful lessons on swimming and safety
- Informative parent education packets

2010 CPR & FA Classes are: January 9th, February 6th, March 6th, April 4th & May 1st. All classes are scheduled from 10 am to 3pm. (First aid is scheduled to begin at 1pm)
2010 Day Swim Clinics
January 31st / March 20th / May 22nd
10am - 3pm - Cost $50.00 M or $65 NM
Structure: 15 & over are welcome; participants will be divided into groups based on skill level.
Focus: Practice time will be dedicated to skill improvement, drills, breathing techniques, aerobic development, dry land exercises and knowledge of competitive rules. Swimmers will also gain greater competitive experience, learn about racing, and become more aware of swimming times and goals. Dry land training and classroom time will be added to create a foundation of increased skill and aerobic development.
Goal: To promote the joy of swimming by assisting and encouraging swimmers and Tri-athletes to reach their true individual potential in an Advanced Competitive atmosphere.
The Clinic will be directed by four-time all-American Chris Bernard.
